the two FCP apps seems to SHARE some settings, caches and template folders...which is bad. e.g. i deleted the creator studio version and it also removed worksüpace and other presets/settings from normal FCP. it does seem messy and i also had troubles opening the same library with both apps...i remember someone write about this already, that it's not 100% interchangable? |

Of course we want the update of Final Cut (and in my case, Motion) to be ‘The One.’ The One that has all the features we need. The features we want. The One that has the features that other people need without even realising it. The One that doesn’t just have as much features as the competitor apps, but the one that makes the makers of those app feel like they have serious competition. The One that changes their plans. We want the One that is so much better than the competition that it makes users of those apps want to go through the pain of learning the app we love, ideally switching. The One which helps everyone else see the light. To understand what we’ve been going on about. Prospects of ‘The One’ ever happening have been receding since 2012. Apple Creator Studio is not the arrival of ‘The One.’ However I’m optimistic about Apple Creator Studio. The chance for ‘The One’ to one day arrive has now increased. Instead of the usual decreased chance that has accompanied Apple Pro App updates for many years. We might soon see some kind of vision for the future of creativity. How applications, operating systems, hardware and services can combine to support people telling stories to change their world. Apple Creator Studio is a space in which that vision can appear. Not the answer to people’s needs all in one go. That vision for the future for creators has yet to appear, but I hope that Apple will develop and share theirs. Through frequent updates to the Creator Studio, through constant communication, support of events of all kinds all over the world, third party ecosystem development and more. This means change in Apple as they change the guard at the top. Engaging better with the world the world they want to change. I’m looking forward to seeing what Apple does with this new space. |

These are the differences in method names per language between FCP 11.2 and FCP 12.0 for all the private frameworks. This is only an approximation based on analysis of symbol syntax. Method = function (loosely speaking). For comparing 12.0 vs 11.2, the first number is total number of methods in the newer 12.0 version. The (+) number in parentheses is the number of added methods between 11.2 and 12.0, and the (-) number is the number of removed methods. I didn't examine the Creator Studio version, but Chris posted those above. The biggest difference was in added Swift methods. That is expected since the goal is apparently to write new functionality in Swift where possible. That is consistent with the previously-mentioned job postings. While Swift has good performance and reliability advantages, for performance reasons, it's unlikely the product could be fully rewritten in Swift, thus the continuing C++ work. |
