Potential problem with ibase_query()

This thread on the firebird support forum suggests there might be something wrong in the way ibase_query() handles immediate queries without freeing the prepared statements that can affecr server's memory usage.

There are workarounds - or proper way to do multiple queries - but If there is really a problem and it is not too hard to fix, I think it would be worth it.

Reproducible example would be helpful. I suspect the issue with incorrect resource freeing or no freeing at all.

In current release version mechanism is a bit cumbersome indeed in my opinion. This part is already rewritten in RC releases. Freeing query is no more needed unless explicitly prepared statements are used.

I'll try to make some test case and will let you know.
The php-interbase in this case is reporting itself as being "Interbase extension version 5.0.1", not sure where it came from. I can also check with RC1 when I have the test case (I still can't build RC2).

Simple example with your version causing problems will be sufficient.

Don't forget to include PHP version, firebird client version, firebird server version and your OS (32bit/64bit)

I managed to create kind of a test case, it was easier for me to capture the queries my script was creating than to create an artificial test case. I am attaching the SQL script that shows the problem, a simple SQL script to create the database, and a simple PHP script to run all queries via ibase_query().
The result is a 5-6 MB FDB file, but in the process the server memory consumption increases by about 1.5 GB. The same script can also be run via isql, and in this case the memory consumption is practically undetectable.
I have tried this in two environmens:

• Rocky Linux 9, php 8.4, php-interbase 5.0.1, firebird client 5.0.2
• Windows 11, php 8.5, php_interbase 6.1.1-RC2, firbird client 5.0.3
  against the same Rocky Linux 10 Firebird server 5.0.3.

The results were the same in both cases.
